Thanksgiving will look different this year … Chicago now has stay-at-home orders as cases of coronavirus rise, making this March 2020 all over again.
Except it’s not. We’ve already got the masks. We’re already cooking at home.
And I haven’t seen my mom in eight months.
Thanksgiving will look different this year … Mainly, without family. And without the overabundance of food …
Yesterday, my husband asked me if we’re making a turkey. I gaped at him. Of course, we’re making a turkey!
He just lifted his eyebrows and let me figure that one out on my own.
So … now I’m in the process of finding “Thanksgiving recipes for two.” (Technically, we’re a family of “four” but the eight- and five- year old will eat a sliver of turkey and a Tablespoon of sweet potatoes. Maybe.)
And I know I’m one of the blessed ones.
I get cuddles, hugs, and kisses from my kids every day. Multiple times a day. (We are an affectionate family!) From the hubby too 🙂 But there is something about a five-year-old who says, “Mommy, I have a secret.” And then I lean in to get a whispered, “I love you.” Or when the eight-year-old spots me at the computer and does a double-take, then comes over with puckered lips. Indeed, I am so blessed!
Because I know not everyone has little ones at home anymore. Not everyone has anyone at home anymore. My heart aches to think of it …
Yes, Thanksgiving will look different this year …. but maybe that means we pay attention to those blessings a little more. We thank God for them more specifically. And we spend time thanking Him.
How has God blessed you this year 2020? Because I know He has!
