I’ve been asking you what you’re reading. Now, it’s my turn to tell you what I’ve been reading!
“Love Arrives in Pieces” by Betsy St. Amant
I’ve never read a book from Betsy I hadn’t loved! This one was no exception. Except the other books I’ve read from her have been 1) about food and 2) have been light and fun.
This one was a bit heavier. But also from a sliver of hearing her personal story of divorce, I could hear her heart bleeding out in this book. It was deep. A story of healing, of restoration, of learning how beautiful we are inside. Wow, what a trip!
If you’re looking for a sweet romance that speaks to the core of life, this is it!
“A Mother’s Strength” by Allie Pleiter
A story of a brooding, lonely male who can’t escape the haunting memories of his past and a spirited, optimistic female who has her own horrors of the past. I’ve never met two characters before who were so unlike each other!
As well as being a stirring novel (and a bit deeper for a Love Inspired novel!), Allie’s book was a finalist in a Christian contest (the Carol award)! Also, she’s a member of the writing group I’m part of! And what an inspiration she is! She’s on her way to have published 60 (Yes! SIXTY!!!) novels!
And now, to the book I really want to talk about…
“Sunrise” by Susan May Warren
If you haven’t read Warren, you need to! It’s got everything: romance, adventure, hints of God’s forgiveness and grace.
Specifically, “Sunrise” has dogs and “mushing” (dog sled). And bears! Oh, and plenty of romantic tension between a girl and guy who had loved each other 10 years ago before the guy ran away and reluctantly returned … and back into her arms. (Aww!!)
As I mentioned, this is a classic Warren book with wonderful discussion of forgiveness.
And this story takes place in Alaska!!!
If you want your heart pounding and to read a page-turner, check out this series! (Yeah… it’s a series. Don’t you start with the first book—even though the second and third are already out?!)
Oh, but I should also mention: this book was only two points-of-view (POV) (we only got a close look at two characters), whereas the other books I’ve read from her were four POV, which felt exhausting and overwhelming to me. But “Sunrise” was only two POV… Yay! I already put the next book in the series on hold at the library!
My next book…
I’m currently reading Liz Johnson’s “Beyond the Tides.”
I already read the first chapter and Ooh! I love it! I love the romantic tension! We already met the love interest, and, oh, there is a ton of enmity there! (Love it!!!)
Your turn: How many pages do you read until you judge a book is worth finishing? ½ a page? A few chapters? Half the book?
That’s all for me! What are you reading?
